THE FLOWER BEHIND THE COLLECTION
Soft by name, intricate by nature
Flannel Flower (Actinotus helianthi) takes its name from the soft woolly hairs that cover its leaves, stems and flower bracts, giving the plant its distinctive flannel-like feel. Found naturally from south-eastern Queensland through New South Wales, it thrives in coastal heath, scrub and dry forest. Look closely and what appears to be one flower is actually a cluster of tiny flowers, surrounded by creamy white, petal-like bracts.
That combination of softness, silvery colour and intricate detail makes it an especially lovely subject in Meryl’s floral work, and a firm favourite with Bell Art customers.
